Yacht club heritage project aims to collect, present, and preserve the rich history of American sailing
The National Sailing Hall of Fame (NSHOF) and Gowrie Group, an independent marine insurance group in the U.S., have announced a new partnership that will help to share heritage stories of yacht clubs and sailing organizations.
The National Sailing Hall of Fame promotes sailing by preserving America’s sailing legacy and engages the next generation by sharing the benefits, excitement and beauty of sailing.
With the support of Gowrie Group, NSHOF will help to preserve America’s sailing legacy by gathering the stories that yacht clubs have to tell, and compiling them in digital and print formats for future generations to enjoy.
The rich history of American sailing has roots in yacht clubs and sailing organizations, and every yacht club and sailing organization has a unique story to tell. Stories range from tales of the feats of individual sailors to events that shaped American history and amazing ideas that grew the sport of sailing across the nation.
Whitney Peterson, VP of Marketing at Gowrie Group, elaborated, “Helping clubs of all types – from small informal clubs to prominent iconic clubs – to capture their fascinating histories before these tales are lost forever.”
The partnership with the Gowrie Group helps the National Sailing Hall of Fame collect more stories from a diverse set of clubs and be able to enhance the stories that many NSHOF Founding Member Yacht Clubs have already contributed to the NSHOF online yacht club story collection library.
